Social Sessions in Dover

At The Riverside Centre and The Sunrise Cafe

In October we started running ‘Cake and Chat’ sessions at The Riverside Centre in Dover, and 'Cake, Create and Play' at the Sunrise Café in Dover.

These social sessions were a great opportunity for some of our group members, and other members of the community to get together, have a natter, and enjoy some company.

The sessions went very well, and everyone had a nice time getting to know each other better. Louisa at The Riverside Centre was kind enough to make a cake for us during these sessions, so they were suitable for dietary needs. The Sunrise Café also provided us with a coffee and cake deal, and this meant group members had an affordable drink and snack when playing board games.

The Riverside Centre sessions were all about promoting socialisation through conversation, and the Sunrise Café sessions were all about learning to play board games and having fun. The feedback from these sessions was positive, but we felt that we wanted a more structured approach going forward. This is what we are hoping to do with our new ‘Wellness Wednesdays’ starting in 2024. These sessions will focus on activities, trips and guest speakers that help to improve wellbeing; and provide a voice for members of the disabled community.
